The annual Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
Incepted in 1974, SSEAYP is a programme organised by the Government of Japan (through the Office for International Youth Exchange of the Cabinet Office) for youths (from 18 to 30 years old) in the 10 ASEAN countries and Japan. SSEAYP aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among the youths, broaden their global perspectives and strengthen their capacities for international collaboration.
Part of the SSEAYP programme entails institutional visits to Japan and the various port-of-call countries that the ship sails to for the year; cultural displays; social and bonding activities; as well as discussions on various topics.
This postponement of the programme is believed to be the first time in its history
